What’s Coming Up

From monthly meetings to brew days, bike rides to beer festivals — there is always something happening with Strand Brewers.

What We Do

Monthly Meetings

2nd Wednesday of every month | 7:00 PM | South Bay Brewing Supply, Torrance

The heartbeat of the club. Members bring homebrew to share, we taste and give feedback, and there is usually a topic of the month — a style deep-dive, a guest speaker, or a technique demonstration. This is where new members become regulars and regulars become friends. Guests are always welcome.

Final Fridays

Last Friday of the month | Rotating South Bay breweries and taprooms

A casual, no-agenda hangout at a different local brewery each month. No homebrew required — just show up, grab a pint, and catch up with fellow members. It is the club at its most relaxed.

BBBBB — Beach, Bikes, Breweries, Burgers, and Beer

Annual summer event

The legendary Strand brewery bike ride — a summer tradition since the early days of the club. Members pedal along the beach path from Manhattan Beach through Hermosa and Redondo, stopping at South Bay breweries along the way: Strand Brewing, El Segundo Brewing, King Harbor, and wherever else the route takes us. The number of Bs in the name has varied over the years (sometimes BBBB, sometimes BBBBBBB), but the format stays the same — bikes, beaches, breweries, burgers, and beer. Members from other South Bay homebrew clubs have been known to join in. It is exactly as fun as it sounds.

Brew Days

Group brewing sessions at member homes or commercial spaces. Whether it is a small batch at someone’s garage setup or a Monster Brew on a commercial system, brew days are where you learn the most — by doing it alongside people who have been doing it for years.

Monster Brews

Several times per year | Local commercial breweries

Big-batch brew days on real commercial equipment. The club has brewed at some of the South Bay’s best breweries. It is a chance to scale up, try something ambitious, and produce enough beer to share at the next meeting.

Iron Brewer Challenge

Three rounds per year (Spring, Summer, Fall)

Our signature internal competition. Random ingredients are assigned — a hop, a specialty grain, and a wild-card adjunct — and brewers have a set window to create something using all three. Think Iron Chef, but with wort. It is one of the best ways to push your brewing skills into new territory.

Jeff Sanders Memorial Homebrew Competition

Annual

A competition that honors Jeff Sanders, a beloved longtime member and vice president of the club. Entries are limited to styles Jeff loved, and the judging is BJCP-certified. It is competitive, heartfelt, and one of the most meaningful traditions in the club.

Oktoberfest

October

The club’s annual Oktoberfest celebration — lederhosen optional but encouraged. Members bring their best German-style brews, there is food, and the whole thing feels like a proper fall festival.

Holiday Party

December

The end-of-year gathering. Good food, great beer, and the kind of warmth that comes from a community that has been doing this together for 35 years.

Lake Casitas Campout

Spring

An annual camping trip tied to the Southern California Homebrewers Festival. Members load up coolers, pack their tents, and spend a weekend camping, brewing, and tasting under the stars.
